The electric self-launch Silent
2 sailplane excels over its groundbreaking predecessor,
the electric version of the Silent Club which laid claim to
the title of world’s first series production electric-powered
aircraft. The combination of proven aerodynamic efficiency,
the latest in battery and charging technology,
advanced composites, and affordability make the lithium electric
Silent 2 a winner in every regard. The electric Silent 2 is
the most environmentally friendly solution
available and is able to satisfy the mutually exclusive objectives
of minimum noise, 42dB max, and an exceptional climb rate.
The 13kW Air Energy DC motor and the folding two-blade large
diameter propeller provide maximum efficiency. The high
performance lithium batteries assure a maximum altitude
gain of over 2000 meters (6500 feet) or maximum cruise range
of around 100 km (60 miles). This previously unheard of performance
allows for initial launch, in-flight save, and return-home
cruise flight, all on a single charge. Once the climb is complete,
retraction of the propeller pylon is simple and rapid, allowing
soaring flight to begin with minimal altitude loss. Thanks
to its incomparable handling (45° to
45° roll rate of 2.5 seconds), effective air brakes, and
full span flaperons that permit slow landings, the electric
Silent 2 promises lasting satisfaction for the pilot in search
of a truly unique sailplane. The Silent 2 has been subjected
to numerous tests including the controlled destructive testing
of two airframes. The airframe integrity
is also fully proven with a well documented history and numerous
flying aircraft. Electric propulsion is incredibly quiet,
clean, safe, reliable, and virtually maintenance-free.
There are no fuels to mix and, thanks to the computer controlled
charging system, your main focus can be exclusively on planning
the next flight.
